Eddystone: Flexibility and Openness
Well, it is not just open source platform but also supports several types of frames for a different use case, making it flexible to set up new functionality easily. In the past, Bluetooth beacons indicate one-way communications with the key objective of sending a notification able to transfer or display information upon a tap. Because it provides multiple frameworks, sellers can use Eddystone for different purpose and functionality. It can transmit three signal types:
- UUID(Universally Unique Identifier)- same as iBeacon Standard
- URL- a successor to the Uri Beacon standard
- TLM- a new telemetry signal
-
UUID (Universally Unique Identifier):
This is a 128-bit value that can independently recognize every particular beacon globally, which an app can track and perform accordingly. For example, you can walk into your favorite retail store. The store could setup beacons. The store app could be programmed to track for that particular beacons and send special discount or offers. The disadvantage to UUIDS is that you required the proper app do anything with the information.
-
URLs:
With this facility, customers don’t have to download the app. The store can send a URL to the customer’s phone and the customer can look up the discount or offers on a web browser. URL instead of UUID looks like a practical choice with universal appeal. It is perfect for a small business without a dedicated app.
-
Ephemeral Identifiers (EIDs):
Security and privacy are the main advantages of this new technology. With Ephemeral Identifiers (EIDs), you can let only authoritative customers to decode them. While the technical requirement of this feature will be released soon, we can be rest guaranteed that this feature will permit customers to do tasks in a protected way.
-
Telemetry Data:
It is frame type which permits the company to handle their huge fleets of beacons. Beacons are battery driven and required batteries changes or fixed generally. Telemetry frame type in sync with Proximity Beacon API can be helpful for developers to track the health of battery and displacement.
Android. Android. Android.
Eddystone is the long awaited beacon solution which also supports android. Official Android support has been a large obstacle to sensor/beacon adoption by many businesses, developers, and brands global in regards to proximity marketing and/or business. Gotekt offers Android iBeacon support, but many technology leaders, CTOs, CIOs, and developers have discussed their unwillingness to incorporate iBeacons into their solutions as they feel iBeacon as iOS only. Eddystone offers a simple, reliable, and dependable beacon framework enables the worldwide Android community to build up a universal of proximity solutions.
Eddystone coordinates perfectly with the Google’s Android one project. Android one is the international Smartphone technology which needs BLE support on each device. The Android One spec aims entry-level smart devices international. Google’s Android one project targets were developing countries such as Brazil, China, Pakistan, India and many others. These markets dramatically boost the total possible spectators for Eddystone driven solutions.
Conclusion:
Definitely, Eddystone is the step in the right direction from Google. In Conclusion, it a cross platform and open source BLE beacon technology. Let’s hope the manufactures and companies in invest in the hardware to take advantage.
